As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Care Force needed to shift its typical in-person service model to the virtual space. Community needs did not disappear, but the pandemic prohibited the ability to travel, congregate, and serve communities in large events.
My team and I prepare for events by creating presentations, doing practice run-throughs, and occasionally developing new types of service to meet the needs of service partners or corporate partners. When service event requires materials, we package and mail out materials to individual volunteers.
During each virtual event, I led breakout rooms of 3-15 volunteers through service. During these breakout spaces, I gave instructions about the service, provided information about the organization receiving the service and encouraged team building among volunteers, who often worked on separate teams within the same company.
After the event, my team and I begin organizing the service items made during the virtual events to be sent to the service partner. We typed up responses to prompts and organized kits.
