Destination Imagination (DI) is an experience focused on developing skills in creativity, problem solving, and teamwork in students starting as young as kindergarten and continuing through high school. Each season, teams of 2-7 members select one of six long-term Central Challenges to research, plan, design, and solve in any way they can during a possible nine month season. The six areas of focus are technical, scientific, fine arts, improvisation, engineering, and service learning. In addition to this, a short-term challenge, known as an Instant Challenge, is given at every competition. These prompts are given to the teams and they have to plan and complete a task or give a short performance in 4-8 minutes total. These challenges are kept confidential until the team comes in. In both types of challenges, teams are awarded points for creative use of materials, teamwork, objective points of the task, and much more. Competitions are held at the region, and affiliate (state) levels every spring, concluding with the international Global Finals competition in May. Destination Imagination empowers teams to work through the creative process and sets them up for success in their career fields.
